Why Is My HVAC Ductwork Sweating in the Crawl Space?

Ductwork sweats when its surface temperature falls below the dew point of the air around it. In a vented Beaufort County crawl space during the humid season, that happens constantly: cold supply air keeps the metal well below the low-70s dew point of the air coming through the foundation vents, so water condenses on the duct and drips onto the insulation, the barrier and the soil below.
